Gabe Newell pratar om Half-Life 3 och Left 4 Dead 3

Igår rapporterade ni att Valves starkeman Gabe Newell skulle ha en frågestund på Reddit under deras Ask Me Anything-koncept. Som väntat var Half-Life 3 ett av de ämnen som dök upp och bemöttes i en enda kommentar:

"The number 3 must not be said. Yes. I personally believe all unidentified anonymous sources on the Internet."

Obegripligt? Låt oss bryta ner vad Newell egentligen svarar på:

• What is the status of Half Life 3/Half Life 2 Episode 3? - The number 3 must not be said.
Det brukar ju skämtas om att Valve aldrig släpper spel med en trea i titeln, och nu vände Newell det mot oss spelare på ett snyggt sätt.

• Is Valve still working on any fully-fledged single player games? - Yes.
Knappast några detaljer att skryta om, men spännande ändå. Vi ser såklart fram emot med sinleplayer från Valve. Vad kan det vara...?

• An unidentified anonymous source at Valve has said that Half Life 3 has been cancelled. Is that source legitimate? - I personally believe all unidentified anonymous sources on the Internet.
Upp till var och en om de vill tro på de senaste dagarnas rykten, alltså.

Även Left 4 Dead 3 behandlades och Newell hade följande att säga:

"Products are usually the result of an intersection of technology that we think has traction, a group of people who want to work on that, and one of the game properties that feels like a natural playground for that set of technology and design challenges.

When we decided we needed to work on markets, free to play, and user generated content, Team Fortress seemed like the right place to do that. That work ended up informing everything we did in the multiplayer space.

Left 4 Dead is a good place for creating shared narratives."
