Ubisoft har i samtal med Games Industry hävdat att piratkopieringen av företagets PC-spel är så hög som 93 till 95 procent. Med andra ord, för varje exemplar man säljer är det cirka nio som piratkopieras.
Därför har man vänt blicken mot Free to Play-spel, som inte är lika piratkänsliga:
"We want to develop the PC market quite a lot and F2P is really the way to do it," berättar Ubisoft-chefen Yves Guillemot.
Guillemot jämför också hur många som är villiga att hosta upp med mikrotransaktioner i Free to Play-spel, med hur många som betalar för sig i traditionella PC-spel. Det
"On PC it's only around five to seven per cent of the players who pay for free-to-play, but normally on PC it's only about five to seven per cent who pay anyway, the rest is pirated. It's around a 93-95 per cent piracy rate, so it ends up at about the same percentage as free-to-play".
