När Microsoft meddelade att de ämnar köpa Activision Blizzard, var det många som oroade sig för att Call of Duty-serien skulle kunna försvinna helt från Playstation. Xbox-bossen Phil Spencer försökte förklara situationen genom att twittra att det är Microsofts "desire to keep Call of Duty on Playstation", men som många noterade är denna formulering är inte direkt vattentät. Och hur blir det med Overwatch 2 och Diablo IV?
Nu har detta förtydligats bättre i ett blogginlägg där Microsoft skriver att de har påbörjat "the process of seeking regulatory approval in capitals around the world for our acquisition of Activision Blizzard". Detta inkluderar att fortsätta släppa Call of Duty-titlar och annat till Playstation samt även Switch:
"First, some commentators have asked whether we will continue to make popular content like Activision's Call of Duty available on competing platforms like Sony's PlayStation. The obvious concern is that Microsoft could make this title available exclusively on the Xbox console, undermining opportunities for Sony PlayStation users.
To be clear, Microsoft will continue to make Call of Duty and other popular Activision Blizzard titles available on PlayStation through the term of any existing agreement with Activision. And we have committed to Sony that we will also make them available on PlayStation beyond the existing agreement and into the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love. We are also interested in taking similar steps to support Nintendo's successful platform. We believe this is the right thing for the industry, for gamers and for our business."
Det bör påpekas att Microsoft inte skriver att alla Activision Blizzards spel ska släppas till Playstation och Switch. Det kan även finnas andra förmåner som extra innehåll till Xbox, Xbox-märkt Call of Duty-marknadsföring, tidigare lanseringsdatum för Microsofts format, Xbox-konton som behövs för att spela eller till och med någon form av Game Pass-integrering. Dessutom kommer naturligtvis alla Activision Blizzard-titlar ingå med Game Pass.
Detta borde sätta stopp för diskussionen om huruvida Call of Duty kommer till Playstation eller inte. Detta är ungefär så tydligt budskap som det kan bli, och ingen verkar alltså bli utan.
