Nu när Microsofts megauppköp på 68,7 miljarder dollar för Activision Blizzard King godkänts i USA, efter att Federal Trade Commission misslyckats med att lägga fram ett argument som kunde bromsa fusionen, är fokus tillbaka på Storbritannien och deras Competition and Markets Authority (konkurrens- och marknadsmyndigheten).
Microsofts plan var att överklaga deras beslut att stoppa affären, men efter att USA nu godkänt detta (liksom EU tidigare) de och CMA beslutat att pausa sina juridiska strider för att istället hitta en vänskaplig lösning på den molnoro CMA lade fram som grund för att inte godkänna uppköpet. Därmed skulle CMA kunna ge affären grönt ljus utan att motparterna behöver slåss om det juridiskt.
Microsofts direktör Brad Smith har uttalat sig om beslutet:
"While we ultimately disagree with the CMA's concerns, we are considering how the transaction might be modified in order to address those concerns in a way that is acceptable to the CMA. In order to prioritise work on these proposals, Microsoft and Activision have agreed with the CMA that a stay of the litigation in the UK would be in the public interest and the parties have made a joint submission to the Competition Appeal Tribunal to this effect."
Competition Appeal Tribunal har ännu inte godkänt Microsofts och CMA:s plan, men det verkar troligt att detta blir nästa steg mot att få affären godkänd i Storbritannien, liksom i resten av världen.
