Alla känner vi till historien med Arkiv X-gubben Vince Gilligans flerfaldigt Emmy-vinnande, ultrahyllade dramathriller Breaking Bad som floppade på AMC men den mer eller mindre räddades av streamingjätten Netflix och idag är en av tidernas mest sedda TV-serier, alla kategorier. Detta gör såklart att Gilligan fortfarande känner tacksamhet men han känner även viss skepsis mot streaming-affärsmodellen och tvivlar på att Netflix tjänar in de pengar som de säger att de gör. Detta via en nygjord intervju med Variety där han poängterar att han ibland ser på Netflix som rent lurendrejeri. Han menar även att han tror att streaming som "system" är på väg att kollapsa fullständigt.
"I don't understand the system, but sometimes it feels like a Ponzi scheme to me. It's all way beyond my paygrade, but there's a lot of unrest in the labor world because people are looking around and saying, 'How is this going to work in the long term?' Maybe it won't."
"Netflix kind of invented this system of streaming and everyone else had to pile in, to the detriment of the previous system. The whole thing feels like it's teetering and about to collapse. Strike or no strike, who knows how this thing progresses? Suddenly, do we go from 700 shows back to 100? I'm generally a little pessimistic about how all of this continues because at a certain point, Wall Street stockholders demand that the companies be profitable."
