Monsterverse är ett mycket märkligt filmprojekt som oväntat seriöst tar sig an monsterstrider på ett nästan skräckfilmsliknande sätt i hur lidande gestaltas. Bara för att i nästa ögonblick sedan vara kaotiskt, actionfyllt och fånigt utan några mänskliga inslag alls. Vi har sett detta med Godzilla i Godzilla: King of the Monsters och i Kong: Skull Island i Godzilla vs Kong - och nu verkar det vara dags igen med Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire som tar vid efter Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
Empire fick möjlighet att prata med regissören Adam Wingard, som leder den kommande filmen. I den intervjun går Wingard så långt som att avslöja att Godzilla och Kong kommer att arbeta tillsammans, och de verkar otippat nog hämta inspiration från Lethal Weapon:
"There's a bit of a truce — Godzilla's in control of the surface world and Kong is down in Hollow Earth. It wasn't, 'Okay, give me a call when something goes wrong, Kong. And I, Godzilla, will rush to the rescue! The buddy-cop dysfunctional relationship dynamic is probably the best one to describe Godzilla and Kong.
My influences are always embedded with the '80s, and the '80s were prime for [that] storyline. There's a lot of misunderstanding - the way that the monsters communicate isn't straightforward."
