Idag är det som bekant den stora Super Mario Bros-dagen, något som alltid innebär minst en större rörmokare-relaterad överraskning från Nintendo. Att Super Mario Bros-filmen skulle få en uppföljare kanske inte är det mest oväntade, givet de kolossala framgångarna den åtnjöt på biografer runt om i världen. Men det är ändå roligt att få det officiellt bekräftat. Vilket Nintendo tillsammans med Illumination passade på att göra under eftermiddagen.
Filmen har inte givits någon titel ännu, och Nintendo själva väljer att kalla det för "en ny animerad film baserat på Super Mario" snarare än en regelrätt uppföljare. Däremot har de gett oss ett datum att se fram emot, den 3:e april 2026. Nedan kan du läsa det fullständiga uttalandet.
This new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros. is planned to be released on April 3, 2026 in the US and many additional markets globally with select territories releasing throughout the month of April.
The film will be produced by Chris Meledandri, Founder and CEO of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director, Fellow of Nintendo, directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, and written by Matthew Fogel. The film will be co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and distributed theatrically worldwide by Universal Pictures.
