Marvel-filmerna går inte så bra som de tidigare gjort på biograferna, och vissa menar att det finns en brist på kreativitet i den mall som filmerna formas efter. Huruvida detta är det huvudsakliga problemet, eller bara ett av många, kan diskuteras.
Anthony Mackie, som spelar Falcon (och den nya Captain America) i MCU, säger dock att bristen på kreativitet även beror på det faktum att det finns ett specifikt källmaterial att ta hänsyn till. I en intervju hos Radio Times säger han såhär om arbetet med Marvel i förhållande till att göra Twisted Metal-serien, som ju även den bygger på ett befintligt varumärke:
"I would say the Marvel thing is completely different, just because it's such a space of controlled entertainment. Like, there's only so much you can do. There's only so much creativity you can bring to the table, because Stan Lee gave us so much content. Whereas with this [Twisted Metal], it was like, 'There's a guy and a girl... go!' So we were really able to build the world around it. And that's the hard thing about the Marvel universe. It's like, you can't really go outside of the lines of those comic books."
