Konkurrensen hårdnar bland nedladdningstjänster för spel och en av de starkaste utmanarna är EA:s egen tjänst Origin där man kommer sälja bland annat Battlefield 3 och Mass Effect 3, vilka därför inte kommer finnas på Steam.
Steam-grundaren (och tillika hela Valves och Half-Lifes pappa samt kunggubbe) Gabe Newell räds dock inte tävlan och har inte mycket ont att säga om den mäktige medtävlaren.
Tvärtom snarare. I en intervju med brittiska PC Gamer säger han: "I think it does some things well. I think there are still some areas where, as a customer, I'd like to see it improve. It's not that different from any other system like this. There are positive things and negative things."
På frågan om hur det kommer påverka Steam svarar Newell: "I and everyone at Valve know that you're only as successful as what you've done lately. So the idea that Steam is somehow the answer to digital distribution ignores the fact that every two or three years, something is going to change dramatically."
