Under Playstation Experience 2016 utannonserade som vi alla vet vid det här laget The Last of Us: Part II och det genom en underbart atmosfärisk teaser trailer där Ellie uttryckte tydligt hur hon avsåg att hämnas, på någon (eller några) oavsett vad som skulle krävas. Det har tisslat och tasslats på diverse forum om att det skulle handla om att Joel gått och dött medan andra avfärdar denna teori direkt. Däribland vi på Gamereactor som aldrig tror att Naughty Dog skulle avliva sin kanske mest älskade, manliga spelkaraktär, någonsin. Åtminstone inte innan det andra spelet i serien knappt börjat. Det finns dock en annan teori som känns mycket mer intressant, enligt oss, och den rör Joels bror Tommy. Läs nedan:
"There are people stating that they have insider information regarding the plot and that it concerns the Fireflies and how they killed of Joels brother Tommy and Ellie surrogate family after the first game. Learning to play the guitar is one of those things she would have learned at the dam, were Tommy lived, and the window with white drapes and ivy growing through it is a reference to the menu screen of Last of Us, which featured the sound of running water (the dam) and Ellie's retired knife on it after you beat the game."
