Vi vet alla att James Camerons hyllade smurf-äventyr Avatar drev utvecklingen för film som teknikorienterat underhållningsmedium likt väldigt få andra filmer gjort de senaste 30 åren. Tekniken som möjliggjorde den typ av ultradetaljerad "motion capture" som Avatar baserades på används nu lite överallt och har bland annat lirat huvudrollen i filmer som Djungelboken (2016) samt Kong: Skull Island. Naturligtvis har Cameron stora planer för den tekniska biten i Avatar 2, också. En av dessa innefattar att försöka få de större internationella bio-kedjorna att byta ut sina gamla projektorer mot amerikanska Christies RGB 4K-laser. En teknologi som enligt många är fullständigt förkrossande överlägsen den trechips-DLP som vanligtvis körs i diverse biografer.
Cinemablend skriver följande om saken:
"This revelation coincides with James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment renewing a five-year tech agreement with projector maker Christie, which suggests that the two parties are more than happy working alongside each other. James Cameron had one eye on the very near future when he made this agreement, too, as he made sure that, as part of the deal, Christie will now provide Lightstorm with the first of a new RGB laser projection series that's currently in development. Christie has high hopes for the RGB, as the company expects it to be much more efficient than current systems. Since James Cameron will now be breathing down the company's neck you can bet your bottom dollar that Christie will be feeling the pressure to deliver a perfect finished product."
Christie skriver följande om tekniken på sin egen hemsida:
"Producing the brightest images, the purest colors and the best 3D visual experiences, RGB laser technology represents the pinnacle of laser-illuminated projection. Christie RGB laser projection systems feature an innovative system architecture with a remote projection head connected to the laser light source (laser module) via a fibre optic link. Often referred to as "pure laser", RGB laser technology uses individual red, green and blue lasers to generate light. The combination of RGB laser projection technology and Christie's unique system design dramatically improves performance in many ways."
