Han hade gjort sitt, lät det ju. Explosions-kungen Michael Bay hade tänkt gå vidare, göra något annat, efter att ha slungat ihop över 800 stycken Transformers-filmer som alla upplevdes lika lövtunt ologiskt urdumma som valfri Pirates-rulle av oss här på redaktionen. Men precis som Gore Verbinskis Jack Sparrow-holmgångar lirade varenda av Bays robotrullar in smått sanslösa mängder kosing och i och med det har han via überfeta lönechecker lurats tillbaka för att göra en till, och en till, och en till.
Något som Paramount själva inte trodde att de skulle lyckas göra inför inspelningsstarten av kommande Transformers: The Last Knight. Men de hade fel, för det enda Michael Bay ville ha i utbyte mot att återvända till regissörsstolen var 14 manusförfattare. Ja, 14. En räcker ingen vart när man skriver den typen av mångfacetterad, djup och nyanserat intelligent dialog som denna filmserie gjort sig känd för. 14 ska det vara. Minst. I en intervju med Comicbook.com pratade han lite om detta:
"I was going to walk away from this franchise. I proposed to Paramount, I said listen, 'Every time we do one of these movies we have to roll the rock back up the hill and we need a real writers room,' and so we had 14 great writers; we put them through Transformers school; we locked them in a room for about a month at Paramount with 10,000 images from the franchise surrounded by props and life-size Bumblebee, it just stared them in the face."
Han pratade sedan lite om att han ogillar filmbolagens syn på 3D idag och att han är den enda regissören med tillräckliga mängder kosing för att göra precis som han vill:
"We are the only movie this year to shoot in real-3D, which is sad," Bay said. "Studios are basically killing 3D because they are forcing directors to shoot and post-convert everything. They asked me obviously to post-convert and I said, 'No, I'll just give you a 2D movie,' but there are not a lot of directors that make enough box office in the world to say no. So I put my foot down and said no. I said that if we're going to do this 3D we're going to do something that has never been done; we're going to take two Arri 65 cameras, strap them together and make true IMAX 3D, so this is the first time in the world you will see true, real IMAX 3D."
