Atari blickar nu mot det förflutna för att säkra sin framtid. Spelföretaget meddelar att man köpt upp rättigheterna till över 100 PC- och konsolspel från 80- och 90-talet. Atari motiverar sina investeringar såhär:
"Atari will seek to expand digital and physical distribution of the classic titles, create new games based on the IP, and explore brand and merchandising collaborations."
För dem som undrar vilka typer av titlar som Atari nu har handlat på sig, nämns namn som Bubsy, Hardball, Demolition Racer, 1942: Pacific Air War, F-117A och några andra. Atari-chefen Wade Rosen säger:
"This is a deep catalog that includes groundbreaking and award-winning titles from Accolade, Infogrames and Microprose. Many of these titles are a part of Atari history, and fans can look forward to seeing many of these games re-released in physical and digital formats, and in some cases, even ported to modern consoles."
För att lägga till detta har Atari meddelat att man även säkrat Accolade och GTI, med målet att engagera sig i en "multi-year effort to transform the company behind one of the world's most iconic brands.".
Atari avslutar med att säga att dess "vast library of IP is the vault from which new and exciting game development ideas are pulled - reinventing old classics, reimagining storylines, and developing entirely new narratives inspired by the games that set the course for an entire industry,", vilket tyder på att man kommer att luta sig mot dessa äldre klassiker när man sätter kursen för framtiden.
