Dune får finfina betyg

Jag kan inte hålla mig längre. Min mest efterlängtade film på flera år får äntligen premiär nästa onsdag (!) och efter världspremiären i Venedig har det trillat in så lyriska recensioner att jag konserverar hajp-kroppsvätskorna som en god Fremen. Så här skriver exempelvis Empire om Denis Villeneuves storartade framtidsepos, som menar att det vore direkt tragiskt om inte Dune fick en uppföljare:

"An absorbing, awe-inspiringly huge adaptation of (half of) Frank Herbert’s novel that will wow existing acolytes, and get newcomers hooked on its Spice-fuelled visions. If Part Two never happens, it’ll be a travesty."

The Guardian är lika febrigt hänförda som andra kritiker:

"...good heavens, what a film. The drama is played out with relish by an ensemble cast (Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa) and Villeneuve is confident enough to let the temperature slowly build before the big operatic set-pieces eventually break cover. He has constructed an entire world for us here, thick with myth and mystery, stripped of narrative signposts or even much in the way of handy exposition."

Total Film bekräftar att det mycket riktigt är den Dune-film som fans har väntat på i så många år:

"In the end, it’s not the performances so much that you’ll remember as the universe that surrounds them. When the sandworm makes its inaugural appearance, you’ll have a genuine OMG moment, in what is surely the most remarkable scene you’ll see in cinema all year. Pray that Villeneuve is granted a chance to continue the story, because his Dune is the adaptation fans have waited a generation for."

Även svenska Moviezine levererade fullpott, som sammanfattar det hela på följande vis:

"Dune är ett vackert, spännande och vansinnigt mäktigt äventyr, som jag sent kommer glömma. Regissören Denis Villeneuve väver med van hand samman spektakulära scener med stilla poetiska bilder. Resultatet är en film som inte bara hänför med sin storslagenhet, utan också övertygar i detaljerna."

Sedan fanns det såklart de som var beskvikna över spektaklet. Indiewire tyckte till exempel att det var livlöst:

"In the end, Denis Villeneuve was all too right: Your television isn’t big enough for the scope of his Dune, but that’s only because this lifeless spice opera is told on such a comically massive scale that a screen of any size would struggle to contain it."

The Hollywood Reporter skriver att det mesta kändes som uppbyggnad:

"Perhaps the biggest issue with '<em>Dune', however, is that this is only the first part, with the second film in preproduction. That means an awful lot of what we’re watching feels like laborious setup for a hopefully more gripping film to come — the boring homework before the juicy stuff starts happening."</em>

Så är det ju: Dune-boken delas upp i två filmdelar och förhoppningen är att en andra del snart blir av. Jag drömmer om att få se Frank Herberts bokserie filmatiseras, men förhoppningsvis får både gamla och nya fans ett ordentligt smakprov på vad som komma skall. Och glöm inte: Hype is the mind-killer! Dune får svensk premiär den 15 september (och smygpremiär den 14). Hur ser dina förväntningar ut?
