Cliffy B likes Gamereactor
Today I've interviewed some of the more prominent developers of this year's show. Cliff Bleszinski was in a good mood hyping up Gears of War 2 and Todd Howard didn't want to say too much about the story of Fallout 3. The last thing I did was an interview with Digital Illusions' Lars Gustavsson on the very promising Mirror's Edge that is more than just white facades and long leaps. DICE were showing off a storm drain level that is something entirely different and the full game will feature many other varying environments for Faith to negotiate.
Speaking of Cliff Bleszinski - he is the first game developer that have had make up put on for a filmed interview with GRTV. It sounds a bit vane perhaps, but it also shows that game developers are more aware of the needs of the media. If you don't want to look pale you need some make up. He was also very happy with the interview that Gamereactor ran with him in the June/July issue. He was especially pleased with the picture where he holds a gun flexing his muscles. A lot fo developer's have expressed their happiness with the new E3 format, but Cliff longed for the E3 of old. "They need to make it big again or kill it off", was the rather harsh words from the likable design director of Epic.
Another funny moment was when I visited Bethesda Softworks' booth. Todd Howard and his gang were showing off Fallout 3 and I actually got my hands on the game for the first time, but the real story was the guy that Todd was showing the game to before me. Feargus Urquhart of Obsidian Entertainment was there to take a peak at what Bethesda was doing with a sequel to the games he helped make back when he was heading up Black Isle. I can't tell you if he liked what he saw, but I can tell you I liked what I played eventhough it was just a small 30 minute bite of what promises to be an epic adventure spanning over 40 hours (according to Bethesda).
Other games that impressed me today include Borderlands and Dead Space. Tomb Raider Underworld did not look that impressive, but hopefully Crystal Dynamics can iron out the things that looked unpolished in today's demo.
