Brooklyn Nine-Nine har aldrig kunnat skryta med några höga tittarsiffror och serien har bland annat fått byta kanal från Fox till NBC efter att ha varit nedläggningshotat. Nu rapporterar The Wrap att säsong åtta blir den sista för den lätt vrickade polisstationen. Därmed blir de avsnitt som sänds under 2021 och 2022 de sista. Skaparen Dan Goor kommenterar detta på ett passande sätt:
"I'm so thankful to NBC and Universal Television for allowing us to give these characters and our fans the ending they deserve. When Mike Schur and I first pitched the pilot episode to Andy, he said, 'I'm in, but I think the only way to tell this story is over exactly 153 episodes,' which was crazy because that was exactly the number Mike and I had envisioned."
