Den engelskspråkiga adaptionen av Stieg Larssons "Män som hatar kvinnor" blev inte den succé som filmbolaget eller David Fincher själv hoppats på. Filmen lyckades med nöd och näppe spela in de två miljarder kronor produktion och marknadsföring kostade. En enorm besvikelse sett till vilken succé Millennium-böckerna blev, för att inte tala om de förhållandevis tunga namn som var involverade i Dragon Tattoo.
Men Fincher själv är stolt över vad han och kollegorna åstadkom och under ett samtal på Tribeca Film Festival berättade han lite mer om filmen och sina känslor.
"We did it the way that we could, and when people said it cost too much for what the return on investment was, I said, 'Okay, swing and a miss.'"
"I was offered Dragon Tattoo long before the first movie was made, and was in the middle of something else, and I was like, 'Lesbian hacker on a motorcycle? I don't think so.'"
Men efter att böckerna blivit översatta till engelska och succén var ett faktum så ändrade Fincher sig
"The thing went on to be a huge deal, and it came back around,I thought it would be interesting to see if you took this piece of material that has millions of people excited and you did it within an inch of its life — could it support the kind of money that it would take to do it?"
Sony hade som ni kanske vet planer för en hel trilogi men efter att The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo föll platt med publiken så lades planerna på hyllan. Det var långt senare vi faktiskt fick en uppföljare i The Girl in the Spider's Web, en mjuk reboot som dessutom ersatte Rooney Mara med Claire Foy som den antisociala hackaren.
