CWL Anaheim 2017 - Saturday Roundup

The penultimate day of the CWL Anaheim event wrapped up last night, and there was plenty of action to see as the pool play stages wrapped up and the winner's bracket kicked off, leaving things very interesting moving into the last day.

In Pool A, Enigma6 and Splyce ended both with 3-1 records, but Enigma6 had lost less maps than Splyce, meaning that they came top of their group. In Pool B, however, things were a bit tighter, with Epsilon Esports and Luminosity having identical win rates and map counts, with very little to split the sides.

BitterSweet impressed in Pool C too, but they didn't lose a single game, only dropping three maps in pool play, although OpTic Gaming took this one step further but being undefeated and having an astonishing map count of 12-0, a figure that isn't surprising considering their dominance of Call of Duty esports recently.

What was surprising, however, is that OpTic went on to lose against Luminosity in a close 3-2 match in the winner's round one, meaning they're forced to play Rise Nation in the loser's bracket today to ensure survival. Another close match between Enigma6 and Evil Geniuses also means that the former joins OpTic in the loser's bracket, and if they beat Kaliber, will face the winner of OpTic and Rise Nation.

Elseswhere in winner's round one, BitterSweet's stellar record came to an abrupt halt when Splyce dispatched them 3-0 and sent them to face Red Reserve in the loser's bracket, and eUnited didn't have much luck either, losing to Epsilon 3-1 to face Cloud9 in the loser's bracket too.

It's all to play for today then, and we may even see favourites OpTic knocked out of the competition and a shock winner emerge in their place.
