Alla som jämfört em bält/rem-driven eller kugghjulsbaserad ratt såsom Logitech G29, Thrustmaster T-300RS eller Fanatec Clubsport mot en Direct Drive-rattbas som Fanatec DD, Simmagic SM10 eller Simucube Ultimate, vet mycket väl vilken enorm skillnad det handlar om. Lite som att jämföra en Ford Fiesta, dieseldriven, med en McLaren 720S, eller lite som skillnaden mellan att "spela TV-spel" och "köra riktig tävlingsbil".
Problemet har dock alltid varit att en Direct drive-ratt kostar flera gånger mer än en bält/rem-driven. Oftast kanske tre gånger så mycket. Något som tyska simracingjätten Fanatec nu avser att ändra på med kommande Fanatec CSL DD som är en Direct drive-rattbas med 8nm i vridmoment som kommer att säljas för 3495 kronor, något som känns bisarrt, om vi ska vara helt ärliga. Detta är alltså betydligt billigare än att köpa en plastig Logitech G932 eller en Thrustmaster T-300RS, som naturligtvis är helt chanslösa mot en Direct drive-rattbas baserad på en specialdesignas servo-motor med hela åtta newtonmeter i vridmoment. Fanatec meddelar även att den kommer att vara kompatibelmed alla deras hårdvara i form av kringlor, växellådor, pedaler och handbromsar och att den kommer att fungera till PC och Xbox One/Series S, men inte till PS4 eller PS5. Under de kommande veckorna kommer vi på Gamereactor naturligtvis att hårdtesta CSL DD från Fanatec och jämföra den mot snudd-på allt som finns på marknaden. Releasen sker nästa månad.

Standard peak torque is 5 Nm, with the Boost Kit 180 (optional) unlocking the full 8 Nm. This high level of torque can be sustained without the need for active cooling, with the extruded and CNC-machined aluminium casing acting as the structural chassis as well as the heatsink.

The CSL DD uses an automotive-grade, all-aluminium quick release. This component is user-exchangeable, ready for the transition to the all-new QR2 system (coming soon).
