I sin egna podcast berättar fantasy-författaren Brandon Sanderson att han tycker att Peter Jacksons arbete med att adaptera Sagan om Ringen skapade den bästa filmtrilogin genom alla tider. Sanderson sade; "It was made knowing it would be a trilogy. Lord of the Rings is cheating because it has the source material, but they could have ruined that source material and they didn't".
Författaren själv håller på att förvandla några av sina kommande verk till både filmer och Tv-serier. Han är dessutom, föga förvånande, ett stort fan och expert på Tolkien. Han ger beröm för hur Jackson lyckades förvandla böckerna till de fantastiska filmerna de blev; "I just reread the books. And there are a ton of places where Peter Jackson added a bunch that is great.The Interaction between Sam and Frodo where Sam leaves is better. It is stronger narratively. Helms Deep is way stronger. I know this is blasphemy, but Tolkien wrote the books in an era where he didn't have what we have now — which is almost 75 years more of how to build arcs and how to deal with them".
Det råder alltså ingen tvekan om att både böckerna och filmerna gjort ett stort avtryck på kanske vår moderna tids just nu mest populära fantasy-författare.
