FBI tar nu en paus från att lösa mysterier (vi tror fortfarande att The X-Files var en dokumentär) och ska nu hjälpa spelföretagen med att få ordning på onlinetrakasserier och näthat. I en detaljerad rapport kan vi via Polygon läsa att executive director för organisationen International Game Developers Association, Kate Edwards, har slagit sina påsar ihop med just FBI:
"I had a meeting with the FBI in July regarding harassment. They noted a rise in activity. They themselves monitor this activity, but they're focused more on cybercrime issues like hacking and very malicious harassment."
Med tanke på idiotiska händelser som GamerGate och såklart bombhotet mot Sony Online Entertainment-bossen John Smedley så är det hög tid att ta krafttag, kan vi tycka. Edwards fortsätter:
"If we see that an issue is getting worse or that there is a greater need then we will serve that purpose. Obviously, given the recent events, that may be the case. We are actually setting up an online resource on our IGDA site and we hope to have it up pretty soon."
FBI:s taleskvinna Emily Yeh lade till:
"We wanted to let Ms. Edwards know the FBI's capability."
