Om bara några veckor gör Pokémon-serien sin riktiga Switch-debut med Let's Go Pikachu och Let's Go Eevee. Det är sedan länge känt att dessa båda är lite lättsammare i upplägget än tidigare delar och närmast besläktad med free to play-äventyret of Pokémon Go, men vi vet också att Game Freak filar på något mer traditionellt som kommer nästa år.
Många har hoppats att det ska bli ett mer renodlat rollspel med en öppen värld, lite som The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Under en intervju ställdes frågan om just detta med både Breath of the Wild och Super Mario Odyssey som paralleller till game director Junichi Masuda, som svarade:
"Well you know in general, I always want to be kind of facing new challenges and trying to you know, do new things with Pokémon. You know it's a different matter whether players will actually enjoy that kind of playstyle, but really you know, things like setting up an AI so that you know real world Pokémon appear, or different ways to appreciate the game, I'm always kind of thinking how to approach the Pokémon series from a different aspect so, in that sense, it's still on the cards."
