Det har varit mycket snack om att singleplayer är dött, på slutet. Gamereactors egen nyhetsorakel Jonas Mäki har vid flera tillfällen pratat om att han tror att singleplayeräventyren bland dagens storspel kommer minska ytterligare närmsta tiden då allt går mot "multiplayer only" (bland annat ryktas det ju att årets Call of Duty kommer att sakna singleplayer helt och hållet). Detta är dock något som God of War-producenten och Sony Santa Monica-bossen Cory Barlog inte alls håller med om då han, likt många av oss andra på Gamereactor-redaktionen, tror att det handlar om övergående trender - som så ofta inom denna industri.
Såhär säger Cory i en intervju med amerikanska IGN:
"Single-player games are the phoenix at this point. We go through the ebb and flow. Games change by the different creatives that get involved and say, 'I have this crazy idea. I don't want to work on any games that don't have some kind of story component because that is the draw for me. Competition doesn't drive me. It's not to say that competition is bad, it's not to say that competitive games are bad because I love that those that exist, but it's not my thing."
