Johnny Depp: "Jag var en crash test dummy för #MeToo"

Åren efter rättegången mellan Johnny Depp och Amber Heard har visat att ingen av de två parterna kom ur konflikten oskadda. Både Depp och Heard fick sina namn och rykten ifrågasatta offentligt, och deras respektive karriärer har påverkats kraftigt.

Johnny Depp, som vann fallet, har dock börjat synas igen i större filmproduktioner såsom i bland annat Lionsgate-satnsingen Day Drinker, där han spelar mot Penélope Cruz och Madelyn Cline. Samtidigt har han nu också uttalat sig om hur rättegången påverkat honom personligen. I en intervju hos The Times beskriver han sig själv som en "crash test dummy for #MeToo":

"I'll tell you what hurts. There are people, and I'm thinking of three, who did me dirty. Those people were at my kids' parties. Throwing them in the air. And, look, I understand people who could not stand up [for me] because the most frightening thing to them was making the right choice. I was pre-#MeToo. I was like a crash test dummy for #MeToo. It was before Harvey Weinstein. And I sponged it, took it all in. And so I wanted from the hundreds of people I've met in that industry to see who was playing it safe. Better go woke!"

Han reflekterar även över sin inställning till det förflutna och säger:

"No regrets about anything — because, truly, what can we do about last week's dinner? Not a f—ing thing."

När det gäller hans nuvarande roll i rampljuset avvisar han dock idén om en storstilad comeback:

"I didn't go anywhere. If I had the chance to split I would never come back."
