I sitt senaste nummer bjuder Empire på två nya bilder från den stekheta James Gunn-rullen The Suicide Squad, en nytändning av DC-franchisen som startade med David Ayers utskällda film från 2016 och Gunn passade på att diskutera relationen till Ayers original:
"Um, it's its own thing. It does not contradict the first movie, I don't think. It might in some small ways... I don't know," kommenterade Gunn och berömde Ayer för sina skådespelarval: "Listen, David Ayer's gotten trouble for the movie. I know it didn't come out how David wanted it to come out. But he did one really, really great thing, and that is he picked fantastic actors to work with, and he dealt with these actors in building their characters in a really deep and fearless way. It's something David definitely deserves to be lauded for, and it's definitely added to this movie."
Gunn jämförde också Suicide Squad med Guardians of the Galaxy och diskuterade hur mycket frihet han fick som filmskapare att ta kål på precis vilka karaktärer han än ville:
"I think you know, from pretty close to the beginning, that all of the Guardians are good - apart from Nebula, who's the outlier. But in The Suicide Squad, some of the characters end up being good, some end up being terrible. They don't just get in fights and say they're going to kill each other, they actually do get in fights and kill each other. You really don't know who's going to live and who's going to die. I was given full freedom to kill anyone - and I mean anyone - by DC."
I filmen kommer vi att få se Idris Elba som Bloodsport, Viola Davis som Amanda Waller, Margot Robbie som Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney som Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman som Rick Flagg, David Dastmalchian som Polka-Dot Man, Steve Agee som King Shark, Daniela Melchior som Ratcatcher, Michael Rooker som Savant, Nathan Fillion som T.D.K., Peter Capaldi som The Thinker, Alice Braga som Sol Soria, Steve Agee som King Shark, John Cena som Peacemaker, Joaquín Cosío som Mayor General Mateo Suarez, Jennifer Holland som Emilia Harcourt, Storm Reid som Bloodsports dotter Tyla, Sean Gunn som Weasle, Flula Borg som Javelin, Pete Davidson som Blackguard, Mayling Ng som Mongal och Taika Waititi i en ännu okänd roll.
