Trots att Lords of the Fallen blev en stor framgång för utgivaren CI Games, har det varit mycket svårt för dem att få ut uppföljaren Lords of the Fallen 2. Spelet har, precis som Dead Island 2, varit under aktiv utveckling hos ett antal studios som inte har levererat tillfredsställande framsteg, varpå det sedan flyttats till en ny.
För närvarande är det utvecklaren Hexworks som har ansvaret för spelet, och det verkar som om de faktiskt kommer kunna slutföra projektet. I CI Games senaste rapport står det nämligen att titeln är studions största någonsin och att det officiellt kommer nästa år till PC, Playstation 5 och Xbox Series S/X:
"Lords of the Fallen: The sequel to this franchise has been developed by our internal studio Hexworks since 2019. Our studio of 60+ internal development team members has worked closely with other third-party developers across various disciplines in the development of the game [...]
We plan to start the global marketing campaign for the game during the third Quarter of 2022. Lords of the Fallen 2 is planned to be released in 2023 as a full-price game for the new generation of consoles and PC."
