De senaste åren har vi kunnat se en tydlig trend på den japanska speltoppen där bärbara enheter helt kommit att bli dominerande. Och när exempelvis Wii U och Playstation 4 släpptes hade de inte en suck mot sina föregångare sett till försäljning. Och allra sämst har det historiskt gått för Microsoft (vars Xbox One dock inte är släppt ännu). Men trots det slår Xbox-bossen Phil Spencer i en intervju fast att TV-spelen inte är förlorade i Japan, och avslöjar till och med att Microsoft har egenutvecklade spel på gång därborta.
"I'll say we're doing more development in Japan right now than we've probably done in quite a while."
Vilka japanska spel som är på väg till Xbox One vet vi såklart inte, men i år kommer Microsoft vara med på Tokyo Game Show som går av stapeln i höst. Där kan vi förmodligen räkna med att få se vad de jobbat med.
"I know our launch is a little further out, but we're going to be at Tokyo Game Show again, we've got first-party games being developed in Japan, and just as a creative entity itself, the Japanese development community, it's critical for us in the industry that we continue to invest there and see great games come out."
Och så var det ju det här med Japan och TV-spelen. Men Spencer är som sagt positiv och tror att intresset kommer att komma tillbaka:
"I don't believe that console gaming is dead in Japan. I'm not Japanese, so I'm not the best person to talk about why I believe that. I don't have any kind of natural connection to it. But knowing my friends there and the things that they're interested in, and the games that are built there, I think we've got to find some genres of games that re-emerge."
