Sedan vi såg Gundam-mechans spektakulära entré i Ready Player One har vi bett till filmgudarna om att få se en fläskig storbudgetfilm av den populära Mobile Suit Gundam-animen och nu har tydligen både Legendary och Tokyo-studion Sunshine besvarat våra böner. Robot-franchisen har nämligen bekräftats vara på väg till vita duken via Anime Expo i Los Angeles och medan det ännu inte finns några detaljer kring handlingen, rapporteras live action-filmen utspelar sig i Universal Century-tidslinjen. Här följer en kort synopsis för de som inte är helt bekanta med denna värld:
"The original Gundam series is set in the Universal Century, an era in which humanity's growing population has led people to emigrate to space colonies. Eventually, the people living in the colonies seek their autonomy, and launch a war of independence against the people living on Earth. Through the tragedies and discord arising from this human conflict, not only the maturation of the main character, but also the intentions of enemies and the surrounding people are sensitively depicted"
Mobile Suit Gundam-animen lanserades 1979 och har sedan dess blivit TV-spel, manga, böcker, animerade filmer och leksaker. Legendary har tidigare handskats med stora filmrobotar i form av Pacific Rim-filmerna och förhoppnings kan mecha-fansen därute få en trogen filmadaption.
