George A. Romeros film som på egen hand la grunden till hela zombie-genren kommer att få en uppföljare. Detta bekräftades av Deadline idag som utannonserade att Village Roadshow Pictures, Chris Romero, Georges gamla produktionsbolag Sanibel Films, Origin Story, Vertigo och Westbrook Studios inlett ett samarbete för att producera en helt ny officiell uppföljare på Night of the Living Dead. Både Nikyatu Jusu och LaToy Morgan kommer medverka i projektet som till skillnad från Romeros andra uppföljare (Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead och Survival of the Dead) kommer erbjuda en faktiskt koppling till originalet och en form av kontinuitet.
Christine Romero kommenterade nyheten på följande vis:
"I am so excited by this visionary team of storytellers that have come together to expand on the premise of the original film. Revisiting the world that George and his collaborators created is going to be a treat for fans. George would have been so happy to see this happen!"
