Nintendo jobbar redan på nästa stationära konsol, och enligt Satoru Iwata är man helt på det klara med vilken riktning man vill gå den här gången. Det berättade han för investerare när han redogjorde för företagets framtid och försäljning.
"We are preparing for our next hardware system. In fact, we already have a clear idea to some extent about the direction our next hardware is going to take."
Det här innebär dock inte att du som precis köpt en Wii U ska fälla tårar och förbanna den impuls som fick dig att plocka fram plånboken. Iwata menar nämligen att man ständigt utvecklar ny hårdvara.
"Once we launch a new platform, we naturally start to prepare for the next one. As it takes several years to develop a single platform, if you ask us whether we are preparing for our next system, then the correct response will be that we are always developing new hardware."
"On the other hand, the most difficult question for us to answer in public in concrete terms is when we are going to launch our new hardware and what kind of hardware we are going to launch, and I am afraid that I cannot talk about this in more detail."
Nintendo har redan reviderat de rykten som säger att man ska visa upp en ny konsol på E3. Det kommer alltså inte att hända. Men att man pratar så öppet om en ny konsol, utvecklingen av denna och att man till och med har en tydlig riktning att följa säger något om läget just nu.
