Formel 1 drar igång esport-turnering i F1 2017

Formula One meddelade under gårdagen att de drar igång världens första esport-världsmästerskap och detta med hjälp av Codemasters officiella licensspel F1 2017 (såklart). Såhär beskriver F1-organisationen själva tävlingen:

"Qualifying events for the new F1 esports world championship will start in September to determine the 40 gamers who will move on to the semi-finals. Semi-finals will take place at London's Gfinity Arena on October 10 and 11, where the field will be whittled down to the top 20 drivers. Those 20, the same number of cars in F1 this year, of course, will then face off at Abu Dhabi for the win. That winner will be added as a character into the F1 2018 game, get a ride in the F1 Experiences two-seater F1 car, and gets an automatic entry into next year's semi-final."

F1 commercial boss Sean Bratches säger såhär i en pressrelease:
"This launch presents an amazing opportunity for our business: strategically and in the way we engage fans. First, it's a growing category with tremendous fan engagement that we're entering in a big way; and we are proud to have Codemasters and Gfinity joining us on this ride. Of course as we do in Formula 1, we'll continue to evolve and innovate in the way we run this virtual counterpart to the F1 Championship to ensure we provide the most exciting and enjoyable experience we can for our fans."
