Du själv styr storyn i The Outer Worlds

Under Gamescom fick vi möjlighet att snacka med Obsidians senior narrative designer Megan Starks för att få veta mer om The Outer Worlds. Hon berättade hur viktig storyn är och att det faktiskt är du själv som styr den i hög grad:

"It's a very player-driven story, so basically it's a sci-fi game, it's out in the future. There's a bunch of corporations that decided they wanted to kind of terraform a bunch of planets and make the new frontier, and make it really company-focused and run. So they sent two colony ships out to start off the Halcyon colony, and one of them mysterious disappeared seven years ago - The Lost Hope - and that's what you're on.

In the beginning an outlaw scientist revives you, and basically says like 'hey, this colony has a lot of problems. I want you to help me solve them', but it's up to you if you actually want to help him out or if you want to kind of side with the board and climb the ranks of their hierarchy, or if you want to go your own way and like destroy society."<em>

Våra utsända passade också på att fråga Starks om ett eventuellt budskap med dessa moraliskt tveksamma företag. Hon svarade:

"We thought it would be really funny to take corporate consumerism to the extreme, so we kind of have this absurd version of what the future could be, and I think some of the influences were kind of like Futurama and Firefly and stuff like that.

So really you just want to make an environment that feels real in that universal setting, so we kind of brought some of our own thoughts and influences from our real lives, but it's mostly to create a setting that feels realistic in that world, even though it's an extreme, absurd version of it, but also we wanted to make it really fun, and that's why we tried to add the humour into it."
