Det har varit en hel del diskussion om free to play-spel sedan det visade sig att bland annat Real Racing 3 är snudd på ospelbart utan att kontinuerligt rulla in mer pengar i spelet via mikrotransaktioner. Men de som bråkar är enligt Nick Earl på EA inget annat än en högljudd minoritet, marknaden har talat och detta är vad den vill ha, säger han i en intervju med Games Industry.
"The market has spoken very loudly that that's the model they like. Even though there's some vocal minority that don't like it, ultimately the numbers would show that they and others all support the freemium model better", förklarar han.
Earl utvecklar sitt resonemang: "I think initially they were a little bit annoyed because the all-you-can-eat model makes sense for them. That's the kind of people they are. But at the end of the day, they're going to pay to eat, if that's their choice. And they're happy doing it."
Earl menar även att free to play kommer att fortsätta växa på bekostnad av traditionella sätt att betala för sig, och att EA kommer att fortsätta satsa ännu hårdare på konceptet framledes.
