"The great thing about Crash is as soon as you kind of get good, there's always a way to be better. You can be faster, you can 100% it, or there's more things to find and discover. You can really see that formula improve over the course of the three games. We looked at that and thought "oh we can bring that back across all the games", little things like time trials. There were time trials in the last one, now there's time trials across all the series, and online leaderboards so those people that want the extra challenge of speedrunning or getting a great score on the different levels - there's 80 levels now for them to excel at.
The other thing when you talk about challenges, we also did a lot of user testing in the studio. Not only with fans and people that had played the games, but people that didn't even know Crash Bandicoot. We looked at different levels and we looked at the notion of difficulty and challenge, and if there was any points where that kind of fell into frustration, we said "oh is there any quality of life things that we could improve?" and it was just little things like messaging, so you'll see now when you load a level there's a little hint at the start of the level; nothing to spoil anything but just enough to say "oh maybe there's a gem you could collect here" or something like that."
