Att förstå exakt vad som gjorde en klassiker så populär är det viktigaste när man skapar en remake. Då först blir det möjligt att byta ut det som egentligen inte behövs och bevara kärnan samtidigt som man gör ett nytt spel. Detta gäller i allra högsta grad Resident Evil 2 som har massor av nya tillskott, men vad är det som inte håller måttet längre? Den där alligatorstriden till exempel, var den verkligen så bra som vi minns den? Producenterna Tsuyoshi Kanda och Yoshiaki Hirabayashi kommenterar saken till Daily Star, där sistnämnda säger:
"It was tricky to do without changing the game's tone a lot. We're competing with people's memories with this game, too, and that's really hard. Trying to make a convincing scene where a human-sized character—a guy with a knife—is taking on an alligator... that's really silly. People don't remember it as silly because the whole game was groundbreaking at the time, but that moment was ridiculous. It was a difficult process for us, making that work today."
Kanda fyller i:
"It might be easier for us to answer that question when the game comes out though—we have our own thoughts and what we liked and what we didn't, and people might feel differently to us on that level."
I samma intervju avfärdar de idén om att lägga till virtual reality-stöd till spelet, helt enkelt för att det inte fungerar bra med tredjepersonsvinkeln. Ser du fram emot Resident Evil 2-remaken?
