Rian Johnson (Looper) har i en purfärsk intervju med USA Today pratat lite mer om storyn i kommande Star Wars: Episode VIII och precis som det ryktats om tar storyn vid exakt där VII slutade, utan tidshopp eller andra påhitt. Det kanske inte är särskilt förvånande men ändå nämnvärt eftersom det har spekulerats hejvilt om storyn i Star Wars: Episode VIII. Såhär sade Johnson i intervjun:
"I don't want to skip ahead two years, I want to see the very next moment of what happens. It will be spent addressing "why Luke's there and what he'll do next. Rey's journey in the story will be spent dealing with the realization that she has this power and this gift of The Force. She's taking her first step to coming to terms with this thing inside her that she never knew was there and is just starting to reveal its potential."
