Alla vet vi hur underbart bra Quentin Tarantinos genomslagsrulle Reservoir Dogs är. Alla vet vi hur våldsam och avklätt rå och obehaglig den där tortyrscenen är där Mike Madsen karvar loss örat på en skriklipande polis. Tydligen var scenen så äcklig att skräckmästaren och regissören bakom kultklassiker som The Hills Have Eyes och The Last House of the Left klev upp och lämnade biografen, någonting som Tarantino bara inte kunde acceptera. Under en intervju på Tribeca Filmfestival förklarade Quentin följande scenario:
"They showed Peter Jackson's Dead Alive, which was just drowned in zombie guts and brains. Finally I've got an audience that won't walk out. I even joked about that in the opening introduction for the movie. Five people walked out of that audience, including Wes Craven. The fucking guy who did Last House on the Left walked out? The guy who did Last House on the Left, my movie's too tough for him. There was all this talk about the torture scene. Steve [Buscemi], he comes to me and he goes, 'Quentin, did you hear what everyone is saying? They're saying the torture scene ruins the movie!' And I go, 'What are they talking about? It's the best thing in the fucking movie! Did you see how many people walked out? That's the shit!" Länk
Tarantino hade rätt och hans sätt att använda överdrivet grafiskt våld nästan som en karaktär i sig, som driver delar av berättandet framåt, är numer ett starkt signum för filmmästaren.
