I och med sociala medier är det enklare än någonsin att framföra kritik vare sig den är genomtänkt eller ej - och den möjligheten nyttjar många både ofta och gärna. TV-serier är såklart inget undantag och det tycks till om allting, inklusive den kommande The Witcher-serien. Men när en person beklagade sig över att det var för många unga kvinnor och få vita män som skrev manus tappade Lauren Hissrich - som skriver manus och regisserar TV-serien och The Witcher - humöret och slog tillbaka på Twitter:
"@Netflix believes in transparency, so here is the truth. Deep breath. Here we go: None of the writers have been to Nilfgaard. Or Cintra. Or Kaer Morhen. None are sorcerers. None are children of surprise. None have hunted monsters, and none have killed anyone (as far as I know)"
Hon följde upp det med ett mer seriöst svar:
"Because — and this is important — writers don't use their skin color to write, or their gender, or our place of birth. We don't even rely solely on our experiences. We use our brains and our hearts. We all have those. I promise."
Twitter-användaren Trent Kusters sammanställde Hissrichs dialoge där vi även kan läsa hur hon senare skrev:
"Have these complainers read these writers' scripts? Have they sat with them and asked about their history and relationship with the material? Or their favorite short stories, or how they connect to a character? Do they, in any way, know these writers at all?"
"Because - and I'm not directing this at you, Hektor, but since you're the one who brought it up - if these complainers haven't? Then they know jack s*** about how television is made, and aren't worthy of an opinion about writers they've never met."
