Den bejublade regissören som bland annat gett oss Nightmare Alley och The Shape of Water har tröttnat rejält på Hollywood. Hans lista av drömprojekt som ständigt blir nobbade av studiosystemet växer och nu planerar Del Toro att lägga spelfilmerna bakom sig och sadla om helt till animerade filmer.
I en intervju med The Hollywood Reporter nämner han hur frustrerande situationen är och vilka enorma rövhål man ständigt tvingas möta. Del Toro går till och med så lång som att likna filmskapande i Hollywood med att äta en bajsmacka men uppmanar också unga filmskapare att stå på sig, tro på sina idéer och inte ge vika.
"They still say no to me. In the last two months, they said no to five of my projects. So it doesn't go away. Making movies is eating a sandwich of shit. There's always shit, just sometimes you get a little more bread with yours."
"The rate of productivity against your efforts will remain frustratingly difficult, and frustratingly long. And you will always encounter assholes. But have faith in the stories you want to tell and wait until someone wants to buy them."
Del Toro nämner också i intervjun hur han tror (och hoppas) att den senaste tidens animerade succéer som Super Mario Bros och uppföljaren till Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse kommer öppna upp avenyer för mer annorlunda, äventyrliga animationsprojekt.
