Edgar Wright säger nej till Shaun of the Dead 2 - finns inget mer att berätta

Det har länge spekulerats om en eventuell uppföljare till kultklassikern Shaun of the Dead - ett rykte som nu filmens regissör Edgar Wright helt tar död på. I en intervju säger han att det aldrig fanns någon plan på en fortsättning av den enkla anledningen att där helt enkelt inte finns någon mer sida av Shaun att utforska.

Wright förklarar att Shaun som person redan genomgått den största förändring som var möjlig för honom - från arbetslös och sentimental dagdrivare till hjälte i en zombieapokalyps. Så därav är det väldigt svårt att fortsätta. Något han menar på är det stora misstaget med många uppföljare där historien egentligen "redan är berättad".

Wright nämner även att han är nöjd med saker och ting som de är - att Shaun of the Dead förblir en fristående film, även om en del folk - inte minst studion - inledningsvis var sugna på en direkt uppföljare. Till Polygon berättade Wright att:

"We weren't really interested in doing it because we didn't think there was any more story to tell. There are a lot of franchises where the sequels don't really earn their keep because all the story has been told in the first movie. When a character has gone through a massive change, it's very difficult to have a second installment.

Shaun of the Dead has him going from being a kind of sad sack to being a hero by the end of the movie. So it's very difficult to start the next movie when there's no obvious arc. We are very happy with it being a one and done"
