Guillermo Del Toro hånade Konami för Silent Hills under The Game Awards

Under Game Awards delade Guillermo Del Toro själv ut priset för bästa art direction, och i samband med det gjorde han en rolig liten notis under sitt öppningstal. Han hänvisade specifikt till Silent Hills genom att säga följande:

"You know, one franchise I love the art direction of is Silent Hill. I hope we get a new one of those."

Det finns de som genast trodde att han syftade på en potentiell återupplivning av projektet, men i själva verket ville han bara återigen göra sig lustig över Konami för att de hade förstört projektet han arbetade på.

I Happy Sad Confused-podcasten förklarar han sig på följande sätt:

"No, not at all. It's one of those things in my life that makes no sense. I kind of just wanted to tickle the ribs of Konami because I don't understand. That was so perfect, it was so perfect a match, what we were going to do was so enthralling. Gaming as a storytelling exercise fascinates me. I wouldn't develop a game again I don't think, because I'm the albatross of videogames. Whatever I make will be...[canceled]."
