Vem som till slut får uppdraget att utveckla Baldur's Gate IV är fortfarande okänt, men en studio som ofta nämns av fansen är Owlcat Games, utvecklarna bakom Pathfinder-spelen och {Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader}. Nu delar studions medgrundare Alexander Mishulin med sig av sina tankar kring den enorma utmaningen.
I en intervju förklarar Mishulin att den största fällan för den studio som tar över serien vore att försöka återskapa Baldur's Gate III. Enligt honom är spelet ett resultat av Larian Studios unika filosofi och flera decenniers erfarenhet av att skapa rollspel - något som inte går att kopiera.
"It will not be Larian's BG3, because BG3 is very Larian formula, with all their ideas for combat and how they mix with Dungeons & Dragons, with their idea of the co-op experience. So any studio that would be trying to replicate that is bound to fail. It's just not the way it works."
Istället anser Mishulin att nästa spel måste ha en egen identitet. Precis som Larian satte sin prägel på serien bör nästa utvecklare våga ta med sitt eget DNA, sina egna idéer och sin egen tolkning av Dungeons & Dragons-världen.
"Larian were making such games for 20 years, 30 years right now... It's their view of the games, it's their view of RPGs, and it's a great game. But other studios will do something differently. They will have their own DNA, their own ideas, and they will pour them into Baldur's Gate 4, and it will be something else."
Samtidigt utesluter han inte att Owlcat själva skulle kunna axla ansvaret om möjligheten dök upp och passar även på att tacka för att så många hoppas att uppdraget landar hos dem.
"...I would like to thank all the players, all your audience that consider us to be able to do that. It's a really great honor."
