Skull Island: Rise of Kong var redan från början något av ett stående skämt i vårt kommentarsfält och på sociala medier, och sedan spelet lanserades förra veckan har recensionerna avslöjat ett bedrövligt uselt äventyr (vår recension hittar du här). Det har redan kallats ett av årets sämsta spel av en lång rad medier, och utvecklarna avslöjar nu att det åtminstone delvis beror på förhållandena under produktionen.
The Verge har talat med flera anonyma anställda på studion IguanaBee, som berättat att titeln utvecklades på ett år och med mycket, mycket begränsade resurser.
"The development process of this game was started in June of last year and it was aimed to end on June 2nd this year. So one year development process."
Detta beror på utgivaren GameMills sätt att bedriva sin verksamhet, vilket går ut på att enbart beställa licensbaserade titlar från studios. Som för att göra allt värre fick de inte ens den information de behövde:
"It was very common for us not to be provided with all the information about the project. Which was quite frustrating when working because we had to improvise with the limited information we had on hand."
IguanaBee måste dock enligt uppgift ta dessa tvivelaktiga uppdrag för att hålla studion öppen, och detta har också inneburit att studion gått på sparlåga sedan februari:
"It's a love/hate relationship because they are the ones who accept or give the projects and IguanaBee doesn't have the means to develop almost anything on its own because well, money. The crunch was really set in motion in February. I was on automatic pilot by the end of February because all hope was lost."
